DAY 1: AIR Programme Meeting 1

DAY 1:
AIR Programme Meeting 1

9 March 2015. Venue: Matadero Madrid (link to map)

11:00h - 11:30h: Welcome
Carlota Álvarez-Basso, Director of Matadero Madrid and Marta Gracia, Director of Art Motile.

11:30h - 14:00h: Work Session 1: Mapping residencies: contexts, motivations and management models
Led by: Montserrat Moliner, artist and independent cultural manager and activist.

It is said that there are as many types of residency programmes as artists’ needs. However these programmes are created with very different objectives. During this workshop we will develop a collective map among the attendees to identify different types of residency programmes. In doing this we will consider three fundamental questions: What are the different contexts for the creation of a residency programme? What are the main motivations? What AIR programme management models exist?

14:00h - 15:30h: Lunch Break

15:30h - 18:30h: Work Session 2: Networks and Networking: Challenges and Opportunities
Led by: Cristian Figueroa and Esther Camacho, Tejeredes.

Networks are considered fundamental structures for the work of residency programmes due to their contribution to the articulation and strengthening of the sector. These networks can respond to very different goals and motivations. During this workshop we will make a collective diagnosis of various experiences of networks for art production spaces and residencies for artists. We will be joined by representatives of different models of local and international networks: Xarxaprod (Catalonia), Red Transibérica (Spain and Portugal), Platform NL (Holland), Residencias En Red (Latin America), Arts En Résidence (France), and Res Artis (international).

DAY 2: AIR Programme Meeting 2

DAY 2:
AIR Programme Meeting 2

10 March 2015. Venues: Casa de Velázquez and Matadero Madrid

10:00h - 13:30h: WORKSHOPS (simultaneous)

Venue: Casa de Velázquez (link to venue website)

Workshop 1: AIR Programmes: Implementation and management
Led by: Marta Gracia, Art Motile.

By sharing references and experiences during this workshop we will collectively address some of the issues to be faced when starting a residency programme and in its daily management. What should we take into account when starting an AIR programme? What implications will the residency have for its context?

Workshop 2: Tools and communication strategies for AIR programmes
Led by: Sören Meschede, Hablarenarte.

What are the communication difficulties faced by AIR programmes and what are the possible solutions? Through the shared knowledge and experience of the workshop participants, we will compile methods and strategies to form a practical toolkit that can be later complemented with the experience of other residency programmes.

Workshop 3: Return and reciprocity
Led by: Herman Bashiron Mendolicchio, Researcher on culture and mobility and art critic.

The relationship between the artist and host organisation is a key aspect of AIR programmes. Taking different experiences as a starting point, the workshop will focus on this correspondence, raising a collective discussion around the following questions: What kind of relations are established between artists and residencies? How are these relationships regulated? What kind of commitments are established between both parties?

About the workshops:
These workshops have been designed by the networks Xarxaprod and Transibérica in collaboration with Art Motile to be spaces of collective learning. Each workshop will have a workshop leader whose function will be to raise the issue at the beginning of the workshop, moderate the discussions and monitor the conclusions of the workshop so that they can later be shared and made available to others who may be interested. During the weeks leading up to the workshops the workshop leaders will contact the participants with the intention of preparing some materials to ensure the workshop is as beneficial as possible.

13:30h - 14:30h: Lunch Break

16:00h - 17:30h: ROUNDTABLE: AIR Programmes and their relationship with other agents of the contemporary art sector

Venue: Matadero Madrid (link to map)
Moderated by: Andrea Pacheco.

There is no doubt that today’s AIR programmes are an important part of the contemporary art ecosystem and as such they have the need to enter into relationships with other agents in the sector. In this sense, what partnerships can be established between them? How can these partnerships be structured to be sustainable and equitable for all parties involved? During the roundtable there will be presentations by the following residency programmes: Matadero Madrid - El Ranchito (Spain); sundaymorning@akwc (Holland);Kiosko (Bolivia); and Moly-Sabata (France).

17:30h - 17:45h: Break

17:45h - 19:00h: Conclusions of the Meeting

Venue: Matadero Madrid (link to map)
Led by: Marta Gracia, Art Motile.

19:00h: Visit to Matadero Madrid's residency programme, El Ranchito

DAY 3: Mobility Workshop for Artists

DAY 3:
Mobility Workshop for Artists

11 March 2015. Venue: Matadero Madrid (link to map)

Presented by: Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation; Spanish Public Agency for Cultural Action; and Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

Led by: Heidi Vogels, DutchCulture | TransArtists; Marie LeSourd, On The Move; and Marta Gracia, Art Motile.
